Parippu Vada (Masala Vadai)

Parippu vada or Masala vadai or lentil patties are the southern flavors from India.A popular tea time snack in tea stalls & restaurants. The perfect combo is the mysore bananas with vadas, tastes great. Here I didn't find those bananas, so just served it with the regular bananas and a hot cup of tea. These vadas are deep-fried in oil and are crispy, crunchy in taste. My dad is a big fan of these vadas, so he used to always buy these from the tea stalls (during our one-month vacation to Kerala)and get home rolled in newspapers those days by the time he reaches home, the newspapers suck up all the oil and the left over is the hot vadas with coconut oil flavor. As a matter of time, mom used to prepare these at home, and we also loved it as kids and now as grown-ups too.All the popular snacks are my favorite too:), anyway coming back to Today's recipe is the crunchy crispy parippu vadas!!
(updated with new pictures)

Ingredients
chana dal (kadala parippu)1 cup
dry red chilli 3-4 / green chillies 2-3 minced
onion 1 medium-sized chopped fine / pearl onion 10 sliced
ginger 1'' shredded
curry leaves (torn into bits)
salt
oil for deep-frying (preferably coconut oil)

Here is a YouTube #shorts on making the parippu vadas.

Method
-Wash & soak the chana dal (or toor dal) for 3–4 hours. Then, drain the water completely and blend it in a mixer to a coarse mixture.(Pulse 2-3 times)To this, add the chopped onion, ginger, dry red chillies & salt, pulse again to mix well. Finally, add curry leaves.
-Heat oil in a wide open pan and pinch out little balls and flatten it in the palm, shape in the form of vadas or use banana leaf.
-Place them in a plate and finally add each into the boiling oil.Fry them till golden brown. Drain on a paper towel.
-Serve hot with bananas & a cup of hot tea!!

Servings ~10-12 vadas

NOTES
*You can use toor/tuvar dal instead of chana dal too, or you can take half of each dal.Either way tastes good.
* Pulse the dal in a coarse mixture, don't over grind and see that there is no amount of water in it otherwise the vadas may not shape properly.
* If the consistency is not proper or a little thinner, you can add bread crumbs to adjust the mix.
